Doom and Gloom
Over the past few years, I’ve received several emails from friends and family members about some great virus that is supposed to destroy Earth as we know it.
The fact of the matter is 99.9% of these emails can simply be deleted.
Here are three things to look for to know it’s time to click delete:
1) The “PANIC” tactic. There is usually verbiage that basically implies you’ll lose everything or your computer may be destroyed. Another way to say it, “You’re doomed if this thing hits”.
2) The “VIRAL” effect. Basically, if you care about your friends and relatives, you will forward this. This just sends junk email around the web for years. If there’s a huge virus, they’ll more than likely hear about it from the news or from their IT guy at work.
3) The “MYSTERY” sender. Did you receive this email directly from a friend or family member as it was written from them or is it a forward and you’re on the 5th list of people to get it. If your family computer geek didn’t send it to you, you can pretty much delete it.
The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to keep your computer updated. If you’re not sure how to do that, contact me.
Hope this helps.
